Mesonychoteuthis Hamiltoni

Today I have heard about this giant squid that was found at Wellington, New Zealand.. Mesonychoteuthis Hamiltoni is the scientific name for colossal squid.. It really cought my attention..



The squid is weighing an estimated 990 lbs and about 39 feet long, took two hours to land in Antarctic waters, New Zealand Fisheries Minister Jim Anderton said.. The fishermen were just catching Patagonian toothfish, sold under the name Chilean sea bass, south of New Zealand and the squid was eating a hooked toothfish when it was hauled from the deep..



And according to Dr. Steve O'Shea a squid expert at the Auckland University of Technology, if they will make calamari ring out of it, it's size would be as big as the tires of tractors.. And because of what I have heard, I wonder what does calamari rings from the said squid taste.. ^_^
